about

For the fourth lose a leg album, I thought I'd try something a little different.

I recently threw away all the cassettes I'd made from my teenage years. A whole bag filled with many, many songs and albums that I had painstakingly crafted while learning to write riffs and operate a 4-track (guys, don't worry, I kept the Invisible Alien Wizards of Dance one. That one shall live on forever). It was a tough decision, but I very rarely listened to them and whenever I did stick one on for a laugh, I'd have to turn it off immediately out of embarrassment // Giving up whisper-singing under a duvet out of fear my mum would hear me was an excellent decision that has benefited mankind tremendously // There were so many songs, nobody else has ever heard them nor ever will (hopefully - how long does tape take to rot?) So, in the bin they went, no point in keeping old terrible things for the sake of having them around (I hope my wife isn't reading this), quietly taunting me from the back of the closet in their wee sad bag of muffled, tapey sadness.

As a tribute and an apology to my teenage self for tossing years of work out, I set myself the task of recording a basic rock album in the style of how I did it back then - just guitar, bass and drums with no frills and no effects (no vocals either, you're welcome). A handful of simple indie rock songs about being a teenager in the 90s, home recording, Tascam 4-tracks, hiding away in your bedroom, blocking out the world with your headphones and a pile of wires and cassettes, all inspired by my favourite 90s guitar bands, the autumn and the rain and saying "cheerio". Sounds brilliant, doesn't it.

So yeah, no acoustic guitar, synths, violin or piano on this one, but hopefully you still get a kick out of it. If you do enjoy it, please consider paying for a copy so that you can download it, dub it onto cassette and hide it away in your cupboard so that your mum doesn't hear it. Thanks.
